Four shapes you should recognise on sight

Saturation, blocking, amplification and staleness, and what each one looks like before you have read a word.

Experienced on-call engineers are not faster at reasoning. They are faster at recognising, and they spend their reasoning on the two or three candidates that recognition left them with rather than on the whole taxonomy.

There are not very many shapes, and each one has a couple of readings that identify it almost immediately.
